Pavlov: Put kids first in Detroit, end illegal teacher strike

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Education Committee Chairman Phil Pavlov, R-St. Clair Township, issued the following statement Monday as Detroit teachers union members staged an illegal teacher strike, closing more than 60 schools and forcing thousands of Detroit children out of the classroom:

“Our kids deserve an education, not empty classrooms and locked school doors. Today’s teacher strike in Detroit is illegal, it’s damaging the district, and most tragically, it’s hurting children.

“Detroit students and their parents deserve to know they aren’t alone. I’m actively working with my colleagues to address these escalating work stoppages, to hold individuals who break the law accountable, and to put Detroit students first.”
