Sen. Pavlov and guest honor Michigan’s fallen soldiers

LANSING—Sen. Phil Pavlov, R-St. Clair Township, welcomed U.S. military veteran Dr. John V. Deaver (right) to the Michigan Senate Thursday.

Deaver, an Air Force navigator on a B-24 Liberator in Europe during World War II, was Pavlov’s guest for the Michigan Senate’s 20th Annual Memorial Day Service.

In addition to serving his country, Deaver earned his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Chicago and worked for Ford Motor Company from 1969 until he retired as its chief economist in 1986.

“Dr. Deaver is the epitome of the Greatest Generation, and I am happy he was able to join me today,” Pavlov said.

Michigan’s military heroes who defended freedom and sacrificed their lives in the past year were honored during the special ceremony.
