LANSING, Mich. — The state Senate on Thursday passed a resolution co-sponsored by Sen. Phil Pavlov that would commemorate Feb. 1, 2016 as Blue Star Mother’s Day.

Blue Star Mothers of America formed during World War II to support mothers of children in active service. Today there are 6,000 members of Blue Star Mothers across the nation. The mothers support each other and their children while promoting patriotism.

Senate Resolution 139 notes that Blue Star Mothers have been perpetuating the memory of the men and women who have served our country, welcoming home returning veterans, visiting wounded veterans in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, assisting in veterans’ ceremonies, and more.

“Blue Star Mothers deserve this honor and recognition,” said Pavlov, R–St. Clair Township. “Their service to their children and their country shows what true patriotism and love of country is all about. I’m thrilled that we will recognize Feb. 1 as Blue Star Mother’s Day.”
